What is it you want to know?

Only what you wish to share. If you think any of it might have relevance to our current situation here in Diadem, that is.

Or our personal situations, being mysteriously brought back from death as we are.

I'm not certain that it is relevant. Whilst the god I know is certainly capable of resurrecting people, he's not typically in the habit of it. Not when my death was caused by his actions.

He decided to end the world. Some of my friends wanted to stop him. I helped, and as you saw, magic powerful enough to do so required a sacrifice.

It seems odd how often gods want to end the world. You would think they would want something to continue ruling over, no?

But yes, I remember all too clearly. May I ask why it was you who had to make such a sacrifice?

They can just as easily create something new.

I was the only one capable of performing such magic. We could run around what ifs, that perhaps another option would have been possible if we'd been there earlier, or had different information, but it doesn't change the outcome.

It doesn't. Even when you can make something of it, you still lost something greater to get it.

And it was after you made this great sacrifice that you found yourself here, correct?

Not exactly. The spell I cast was to enable me to take all of the released souls back to Hell. An afterlife. That is where I now am, existing in a way.

Released souls?

When you die, your soul or essence of who you were travels to an afterlife. When God struck out, he'd released all of the souls from Hell. They don't belong in the waking world.

Oh, I'm well aware of the problems caused by shades not being where they belong, although in my case I was mainly the only one who suffered. This is how he attempted to end the world?

It was the start of it. A distraction and massive destruction, and a piece in a plan.

Then you took all the souls back to hell, remaining there with them. And you were trapped there for eternity?

I was dead. My soul would have been bound for Hell upon my death anyway.

But does this kind of death include any awareness? Or was it just... nothing?

There's awareness. My soul exists in Hell, the afterlife I now inhabit.

Some terrible sort of purgatory you didn't deserve, then.

You might be the only one to think that.

Being in Hell doesn't surprise me, my soul would have been bound for it anyway.

I might have died in a selfless act, but I'm not a selfless person.

I don't think many people are completely selfless, regardless of what they claim.

But are they selfish?

Everyone acts selfishly some of the time. I understand you're saying that one sacrifice doesn't necessarily wipe away other things you've done, but it still seems an unfair fate to me.
